In my attempt to study and understand the science and philosophy of leadership in the 21st century, I have discovered that true leadership must always enable people to actively pioneer and develop new ways of doing things (innovation), whilst disrupting outdated systems and pursuing the agenda of positive transformation for the betterment of humanity in their sphere of influence. I know ! This is a mouthful .
Leadership is a Mentality…
It is a way of thinking that impacts how you see and how you understand the world. A healthy mindset is the perfect breeding ground for disruptive leadership. You can only go as far as the understanding, wisdom and knowledge you possess.
Leadership is a Skill…
It is an innate ability that can be bettered through training and learning. It is about competence, expertise, readiness, professionalism, intelligence and brilliance. Leaders are often skillful people that are well versed. The beauty about skill is that it can be acquired over time.
Leadership is a Condition of the Heart…
The most important factor in leadership is the heart of the leader. This is the central or innermost part that houses your character, will and emotions. Leaders should have a humble, blameless, pure and loving heart. They must not be proud, lustful, jealous, sexually immoral and selfish.
Leadership is a Way of life …
Leadership is not something you ‘put on’ when you attend board meetings or when at work in your executive office. It must be who you are 24/7. Contrary to popular belief, it is never a cap you put on and off, but the manner in which you live your life wherever you are.

Dr. Myles Munroe authored a book that I strongly recommend titled, The Spirit of Leadership in which he argues this very point: Leadership is a spiritual act. To be truly effective on this earth you have to be one with your purpose, assignment and calling. This can only happen when you are one with your Creator and Maker – this is a spiritual experience.
Leadership is Love for Humanity…
It is genuine love for people that compels true leaders to fight against the socio-economic ills of society at the expense of their own lives. When true love for humanity is absent, corruption, abuse and selfishness run rampant.
